professional services

As your personal primary care physician, I am dedicated to providing you with excellent, compassionate, comprehensive medical care. Drawing on my years of experience as a family doctor, I listen carefully and take an integrated approach to understanding all of the factors that affect your health, to determine the most appropriate treatment and recommendations for healthful living.

My practice is focused on patients who are 50 and older. My goals are to help you age well and to empower you to manage any physical challenges and ailments with full knowledge, excellent care and advice, informed decision-making and peace of mind.

Your membership fee gains you access to a small practice and enables me to devote quality time to fully understanding and serving you and your healthcare needs. All office visits are billed to your medical insurance and/or Medicare and include your plan’s regular co-pays.

Access and Attention When You Need It

With your membership to Tree of Life Healthcare, you receive my cell phone number, office phone and email. When you call, we will discuss your concerns and schedule an appointment if necessary. I offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your needs.

If an office visit isn’t warranted and or isn’t your preferred mode of communication, I am always pleased to consult with you by phone. With your permission, I will gladly consult with other family members who are responsible for your care, by phone or if they accompany you to my office.

When I meet with you during a patient visit, I will take phone interruptions only in case of emergencies, so that I can give you my full attention. If you call while I am with another patient, I will return your call as soon as possible.

While I will respond to short email inquiries, I much prefer to speak to you by phone or in person, as I find it enables me to get a better understanding of your concerns.

I am available to serve you, 24/7, throughout the year. When I am away, I provide excellent medical coverage by doctors or nurse practitioners who share my values and approach to treatment. I will follow up with you as soon as I am back in the office.

Coordination of Medical Specialty Services

I am pleased to work with your current team of specialists or to refer you to other experts that I respect and trust. I ensure quality communication among specialists, both to be certain that they fully understand you and your medical history, as well as to coordinate their analyses and recommendations.

Once we have all of their input, I explain their findings to you and discuss your treatment options. If you want a second opinion, I will help you to find another expert and integrate all of the advice, so that you can make an informed decision about next steps.

I also refer to and coordinate with excellent home healthcare services, case managers, nurses and rehabilitation care providers, depending on your medical condition.

Medical Advocacy During Hospitalization

Should you need hospitalization or short-term rehabilitation, I visit you and coordinate with your physicians to ensure excellent communication about your medical needs and personal concerns. I serve as your advocate with other medical professionals and make certain that your feelings and priorities are heard and respected. I help you navigate the often complex labyrinth of medical diagnoses and decisions that arise in a hospital setting, so you can rest assured that you are receiving appropriate medical treatment and can focus on getting well.

I am affiliated with UMass-Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. If you are hospitalized at another medical center within Greater Worcester, I will still facilitate your care and serve as your advocate and liaison.

Guidance for Complex Medical Decisions

Healthcare today is exceedingly complex. There are more options for treatment then ever before, and more layers of healthcare services, insurance paperwork and bureaucracy than ever before. There are often downsides to each treatment option, plus a range of alternative therapies to consider—as well as the choice not to treat at all.

The process of deciding what to do when you are sick can be frightening and overwhelming. I listen to your concerns, answer all of your questions and help you to understand your options for appropriate treatment: the benefits and risks, where and how to get the best specialized care, and how to negotiate your way through the healthcare system.

Medical Life Planning

As you grow older and health issues become more complicated, it’s important to clarify your priorities for treatment and quality of life. We engage in an ongoing conversation about how you wish to be cared for based on your health needs, as well as your personal goals and values. Among my questions: Where do you see yourself medically? socially? spiritually? How do you envision being cared for? What are your goals for this phase of your life?

This conversation includes more than specifying advanced directives, such as whether you wish to be resuscitated in case of a life-threatening crisis. Together we clarify your priorities for quality care and healthful living, which we will revisit and evolve as your needs change.

Personalized Support for Decision-Making
About End-of-Life Care

When the end of life nears, I will help you decide whether or not you want aggressive care and will attend to your comfort and quality of life, whatever path you choose. Should you want hospice, I will refer you to a certified program and continue to follow you as your attending physician, working in collaboration with the hospice care team.

I am Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Care and former founding Medical Director of the Jewish Home Hospice in Worcester. It is my profound privilege to be your doctor, guide and support during this final phase.

Resources for Non-Denominational Spiritual Care

Your feeling of well-being involves aspects of your life that are often not considered by medical care providers or are not within their area of expertise: relationships, community, family, religion or spirituality, how you find purpose and meaning in life. But aging or illness affect more than physical health and can significantly impact your quality of life.

To help you address these issues, your membership in Tree of Life Healthcare entitles you to a complimentary initial meeting with a professional chaplain, a trained provider of spiritual care who is available to accompany you as you work through quality-of-life concerns, if you so choose. After the initial meeting, should you want ongoing chaplaincy services, that can be arranged on a fee-for-service basis.

Home Care Option

If you are homebound or living in a nursing home and physically unable to come to my office, I offer an enhanced Home Care Option to provide all of my services at your place of residence. I make scheduled house calls to Home Care Option patients who live within Greater Worcester or reside at select nursing homes, including Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center at Worcester, The Jewish HealthCare Center and several others. Please contact my office for details.
